Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday
I am thankful that my husband is home another week.
I am thankful that the doctor who has never seen us listened to me this morning and gave us 2 off post referrals.
I am thankful for my sons counselor who is not intimidated by Tri-Care.
I am thankful for the praise CD I bought myself.
I am thankful that Jesus died on the cross to forgive my sins, the big ones, the little ones and the ones no one else knows about. I am thankful that the people who own are home knew there was a issue with the house and sent a repair man even though they knew we did not know of the problem.
I am thankful that my in laws are visiting this weekend. I am thankful that my husband fixed the lift gate on my van before he left.
I am thankful for the improvements in my sons attitude and school work.
I am thankful for the cake survey I got to do this week that let me receive two cake mixes and icing for free. How fun to bake for no real reason.
I love reminding myself to be thankful. Please check out other blogs that are feeling thankful at:

Homeschooling 101

I love having my babies home and I love that I can teach them what they want to know. For the last few days Michael has been begging me to help him find out how sponges re produce. I finally remembered well after he asked for the 100th time today. So in case you were wondering here is how sponges re produce:
Sponges may reproduce sexually and asexually. This helps keep them alive in their habitats. Most sponges are both male and female. In sexual reproduction, they may play either role. The ‘male’ sponge would release sperm into the water, which would travel and then enter a ‘female’ sponge. After fertilization in the sponge, a larva is released into the water. It floats around for a few days and then sticks to a solid to begin its growth into an adult sponge.

Sponges are also able to reproduce asexually through budding. This is when a small piece of sponge is broken off but is still able to survive and grow into another sponge. Sponges are also able to repair damages to their bodies. These characteristics of sponges are ideal because even small parts of sponges may survive in the water. Diversity is created when different sponges reproduce with other different sponges.

Tempt m,y tummy Tuesday-part one

I won a jar of Marmite from Living Life the Large Family Way. I did not know what to think about it exactly. So I opened it and smelled it and then convinced 2 of my 4 children to try it. They were not happy. So I looked it up on line. Lots of people really eat it. I am determined to find a recipe to hide it in. I can not imagine eating it without hiding it in something. If you have ever had it and would love to teach me more about it let me know. I am so grateful for this prize and look forward to hearing more about it

1. What is Marmite?
Marmite is dark brown-colored savory spread made from the yeast that is a by-product of the brewing industry. It has a very strong, slightly salty flavor. It is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it type of food.
It comes in small (2-5 inches high) bulb-shaped glass jars with a distinctive yellow lid.
Children in Britain are generally fed it from the time they are weaned, and most never grow out of it. It has a high B-vitamin content, as well as riboflavin and niacin—and as such is very healthy. (The vitamin-B complex helps prevent a 2. What do I do with it?
The most common use is as a spread on toast or in sandwiches. Note: it is generally spread very thinly because of its strong flavor—don't use it like jam. It has drug-like qualities; the more you eat, the thicker you need to spread it to get the same mouth-burning effect. Some people have even called it addictive.
It is also delicious spread on hot buttered crumpets or ryvita crackers. A pregnant fan has reported a love for Marmite and bananas.
Phil Johnson's favorite way to eat it is thinly-spread on rye toast with slices of sharp cheddar cheese. Very satisfying.
One contributor to the "I love Marmite" Web site has this suggestion: "Eat it on raw spaghetti. It's true! Dip raw spaghetti in Marmite and then eat; it tastes just like Twiglets."
A lot of Brits have it on buttered toast. Do take care not to get butter or bread crumbs in the Marmite jar. It makes an unappetizing mess for the next person.
There is no feeling like the smugness you feel when you manage to scrape just enough Marmite from the jar for another piece of toast. Top tip (from James Kew): pour boiling water into a near-empty jar and drink the jar clean.
A teaspoon of Marmite can also be added to soups, casseroles, and almost any savory food for a wonderful, rich flavoring.
In England, pretzel-like morsels and other boxed fast-food snacks are available with Marmite flavoring. Fans of Mr. Bean will remember an episode where he made hors d'oeuvres for a party by spreading Marmite on twigs cut from a tree outside his kitchen window.
In some neighborhoods it is (apparently!) common for nursing mothers to dab a little on their nipples before feeding their infants.
3. What are the ingredients?
Marmite is made from (greater quantity first):
• Yeast Extract
• Salt
• Vegetable Extract
• Vitamin: Niacin
• Spices
• Vitamins: B1, B2, Folic Acid, B12

Tempt my tummy Tuesday-poptarts

Blessed with Grace

I have made home made poptarts before with store bought pie crust but this time I decided to make it. I used strawberry jam, nutella and apple butter in the center of these. I am freezing them to eat on busy days. For the shell
2 and 1/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
1/2 shortening chilled
2 TBSP butter chilled
5-6 TBSP ice water

1. mix flour and salt together
2. cut in shortening and butter
3. add water 1 TBSP at a time
4. separate into 2 bowls and chill
5. roll out and fill, it really does not take much to fill them, seal the edges.

This week is extra special because I am using my new bakeware I won from The Legacy of Home. I am a die hard Pampered Chef stone person but these are wonderful. They worked better than I could have imagined. I can not wait to make pizza on them in the next couple of days

Not me Monday

My girls are really good about trying new foods. So it was not me who bribed them with the ice cream that was left in the bucket if they ate cooked asparagus. I know I should not complain but they prefer to not have there veggies cooked. They were all over that. Faith got hers down decently, Hope (poor Hope) tried and tried and tried and drank and drank and drank several glasses of water. She ended up with a few bites and Grace ended up with a few bites too.

Mama Guilt Monday

Photobucket

I feel guilty constantly because my 7 year old ask me for mommy and me alone time everyday. So Saturday I told her that if she combed all the knots out of her hair I would take her out. I never believed she would really get it combed out without allot of crying. She got it done and we went out for a few hours.
As far as picky eaters. My girls will eat just about anything and if it is something new then bribe them. My son only eats about 5 foods and so the rule is he has to set down and pray with us and then when we are done praying he gets up and makes his lunch or dinner.
I like Mama Guilt Monday because it makes me feel normal. Check out Cop Mama's blog to see what other mom's are feeling guilty about.

Getting to know me

1 - Why did you start blogging? honest, peer pressure. I thought it would be a great way to stay in touch with friends because we are military and move often. I also think it will be a great way to let my husband know what is going on when he is deployed

2 - Who's the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"? honest, that is hard. I could list all the big ones but honest there are three that sound like they have neat lives. Cop Mama, because she seems to always have nice things to do. Masto Mama because she has such a positive attitude when dealing with her children being sick, and Mama M because she just seems sweat and I guess if I am totally honest I would love to have a play date with Mckmamma so I could tell all the mean people that I know her in person and she really is nice and truthful.
3 - Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look just fine the way you are? Because I remember what I looked like a hundren pounds less and I liked it
4 - What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you?Nothing I am a happily married woman
5 - Tattoos. How many do you have and how many are visible when you wear your "everyday" clothes? zero, too scarry to think about, I would cry when that needle got close to me
6 - What was the best year of your life and why? I honestly do not know
7 - Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day. Make man noises and not feel guilty, I do not want to say out loud or write it, wear boxer shorts
8 - What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows? none, do not drink

I was left home alone at 16 and had a wild party, I did things like cut the grass (writing pam loves robert in it), pulling the ugly vine off the side of the house (along with the paint) and pulling up a bush (small tree thing) that was ugly. I think my mom would have been less mad had I had a wild party

My Saturday

I have to be honest, I have been a little sad recently. I do not know if sad is the right word. I am struggling to not withdraw from Rob. Very common when I know he is leaving. I fight it, I really do I know deployments are not his fault and he hates them as much as we do. He has been doing training this week he was taught how to clear a room (not that he has not done this a ton in real life) and then put into a cut off Humvee and they had it rolling over so he would know how to act in a roll over, his legs are bruised and his neck sore from this one. I think him talking about it just makes it real to me.
So yesterday Rob was off and I wanted to go do something. I love getting out of the house right now. Rob had made plans for the repair company to come out and fix his windshield so he had to stay home. I got annoyed I did know this so I took my aggravated self to bed. A few minutes later Hope came in and said mommy, when are we going to have our mommy and me alone time . I told her that if she brushed all the knots out of her hair I would take her out. She did which is shocking and we left. I honestly did not want to go out, I sometimes hate that we are 30 minutes from real stores. So we left and headed to Target only I got distracted when I saw hobby lobby. Nothing makes you feel better than a trip into a new hobby lobby. We picked up a little fabric. I so need to be giving away these camera straps because I am making more than I can use in my lifetime. It was so neat because we even took a few minutes to count out all the change in her wallet on a empty table. We took the time to read the signs. I felt like she got more school than she would have if we would have been home all day. Then we headed across the street to the mall because I heard there was a carousel. We found it and rode the carousel together. Hope was so excited to be able to ride it. While I was in Hobby Lobby I found a gift certificate for Build a Bear so after the carousel. l we went to build a bear for new outfits. I decided to stop by Bath and Body and picked up a few things to give away to friends. I am so thinking I should do give away on my blog. Then we went to lunch which I all she had talked about all morning. We went to Golden Correll. She had a plate of healthy food, then she had chicken and spaghetti and then she had this: ice cream and a cupcake and every known topping she could think of. I have to admit that as I watched her all day I kept thinking of how it would be to have one child and how I love spending time one on one with my children. We then went to Sam s and she got more free samples then she could eat. We are constantly amazed at how much this child loves to eat. After Sam s we came home because well I was exhausted. We came home and she looked at daddy and said OKAY, when is our daddy and me alone time. We decided to go to a play last night. It was about a hour away but so worth it. It was the story of Ruth only based off the 1940 s. We all had a great time. We stopped for dinner on the way. We did not get home until 11:30 but I would do it again in a second. Today we are staying around the house. I think I will work on some sewing projects and getting laundry caught up. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Friday. I ask that you pray for my family during this deployment.
