I got a award

I got a award at How are the Harmon’s? It is a new blog I am reading. They are new homeschoolers. The rules are to talk about yourself. So here it goes.
1. I am half of 72 years old.
2. I moved out of my parent’s home when I was 18 and have never moved back. Not only did I move out but I moved 9 hours away.
3. I have been homeschooling for 8 years. It is hard to think that I have a middle schooler, I also cannot believe I will have a high schooler next year. That is when it seems serious to me.
4. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 16 years. He is a soldier.
5. I love to bake and cook especially for other people but I would not say that I do it well.
6. I love being a soldiers wife, I love the way he looks in his uniform.
7. I love to organize and clean but I cannot stand to mop a floor or dust a room.
8. I love blogging and have a million ideas of what I would like to write about but never seem to get around to it.
9. In the last couple of years I have found a new love of taking a nap.
10. Today is Saturday and I am spending it relaxing, well that was after I made a sheet cake and frosting and spaghetti for 70 people.

Mil Spouse fill in Friday

1. Have you and your spouse agreed to live in separate locations (a geographical bachelor tour) knowing that the short-term inconvenience would have long-term benefits for your family? How did it work for you? submitted by When Good People Get Together
No, we both agree that if we have any say in the matter we will always be together. Deployments take my hero from me too often. I will not choose to live without him. This is one of the major reasons we homeschool.
2. What is your favorite thing about being a MilSpouse? submitted by Sarah Ruth Today
Seeing my man in uniform. Talking to retiree’s wives about being a spouse and hearing how they did it. I think we have it so easy compared to those poor ladies who went months without word on their spouses.
3. If you could still have your spouse/significant other and your family, but take the military life out of it…would you? submitted by Trust. Love. Believe. Bake.
No… I mean I would but he would not be the same. I love him but the military has changed him in a way that makes him the man he is today.
4. What have your homecoming experiences been like after a year long tour of separation? submitted by Army Soldier, Army Wife DO you mean when he wipes his hands on the curtains thinking they are pull down paper towels. Or when he licks his plate because he forgets I am there, or when he throws the dog into the wall because of his PTSD. Honestly, it is amazing, I love the way it feels when I melt into his arms for the first time. I instantly feel the stress of the last year melting off of me

5. If you have a child(ren) why you chose their name(s)? If not, why you would name your child something? submitted by Tiara’s & ACU’s I chose my daughter’s because there was a nice girl in my highschool with that name. My son was named because it was my husband’s friend growing up (not named after him, he just liked the name). My other girls just fell into it.

Homeschool Journal

In my life this week…I had/have a sinus infection. It is my first and it is kicking my behind. I did not realize I needed to go to the doctor until I realized I had taken a entire bottle of ibuprofen.
In our homeschool this week…
We did math at the strawberry patch and studied animals at the zoo and aquarium and worked on math review skills.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… we are going to a friend’s today to see her chickens, in the last week we have gone to the beach and zoo and aquarium and gone strawberry picking. It has been a busy week.
My favorite thing this week was…
Having friends over to play almost daily and today we are going to visit a friend who has chickens, I cannot wait.
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
How is my son done with school for the year but my girls still having another month at least? How do you prepare your child for standardized test?
A photo, video, link, or quote to share

My breakfast

My friend Becky gave me this reciepe. Take Grands buscuits and put in muffin pan, you will have to take a little from a couple to make 12 since only 10 biscuits come in a pack. scramble (not cook) 5 or 6 eggs, mix with half a pound of meat (we used sausage) pour the eggs and sausage over the biscuit, not quite to the top. sprinkle with cheese and bake for about 18 minutes. WOW they were good and I think they would freeze well. I will tell you I tried a second batch with the generic biscuits, you know the kind that come 4 packs together and put one biscuit in each one. It did not work, the egg was able to get to the bottom so you had to use a fork with it. my goal is things to eat on the way.

5 Question Friday

1. If you could buy any car, money not an option, what would it be? I use to say I wanted a 12 passenger van until my husband reminded me I could not park my minivan. I honestly would like a Tahoe or something similar that has more leg room for my growing space.

2. What was your worst first date ever?
HMMM, not bad but my now husband did take me to play miniature golf. They were busy so we decided to hit balls. So when it was time to play mini golf, I asked how to hit the ball and he said the same way. OOPS, as the ball flies over the fence and onto a car.
3. How old were you when you fell in love for the first time?
Oh man, when did I fall in love, I do not remember a specific minute. My hubby and I dated for 2.5 years and then broke up and then one day a couple of years later he called me out of the blue. I would say it was probably the minute I heard his voice.
4. When was the last time you reconciled your checkbook? HA never, years and year ago. I have to remember to even carry a checkbook. Every few weeks I look to make sure my bills came out of my account and then that is it.

5. If you were going to fashion a "Wanted" Ad for a best friend, how would you word it? I actually have had a wanted sign made on me. Yes, I was a wanted person.

A trip to the Ocean

I learned today that sea gulls will eat strawberries. I guess I knew they ate anything but strawberries seemed crazy to me.

I told the kids that it was too cold for playing in the water. I did bring towels because I knew someone would get wet. At one point the girls had there capri's pulled up and were playing in the water. By the time we left Hope was wet head to toe.

I would be willing to pay someone to teach me and my blessings how to keep our eyes open when they are outside and getting there pictures taken.

North Carolina Zoo

Last week my mom visited. I love when my mom visits and this week I wanted it to be special because the last time she was visiting I had a eye infection and was not able to drive us anywhere. So this week we went to the zoo. It was wonderful, the weather was perfect. We took a friends daughter. She is the cutest thing ever. I told her she had to be in the stroller or holding a hand. So when Grace tried to hold her big brothers hand Kerri went crazy. She made Grace let go of him so she could hold his hand. Then when he was holding Grace she had a fit so he put Grace down to hold her. It was too cute. I noticed something else about children, rather they are a human or animal child mama wants them closed. These little monkey's could not get away from momma or she would grab them by the tale and pull them back. Cracked me up. Maybe I should attach a tail to my kids.

Fort Fischer Aquarium

I love this aquarium, I love that we have been there a few times and so the kids know what to look for.

This day was perfect because it was not too warm and there were not too many people there. I love that the beach is just seconds away. We always pack a lunch and eat at the picnic tables.

The kids love that they can pet the sting rays. I enjoy how many workers are walking around and are willing to answer any of our questions.

5 Question Friday

1. What is your favorite Easter tradition? Watching the passion of the Christ, I do not know why but I love how real it makes it to me.

2. Are you a "shower" or a "long, hot bath" kind of person? I love a long bath but really do not fit in most tubs, so if I find one that does I do not want to get out.

3. Can you parallel park and if so when is the last time you did it? I cannot and never have. For some reason I did not have to when taking my driver’s license or I would have failed.

4. What is your favorite Easter candy? Oh why, can I not think of the name? little purple package of chocolate covered in a coating like m&m.

5. Easter: do you go all out with the Easter Bunny or focus on the religious part of the holiday? Mostly the religious part, I let the kids say hi to the Easter bunny but really he could come in June and we would not care.

Cake Pops

Have you ever heard of The Cake Doctor cook book? I love this book but have not used it in a while. Today I pulled out the book to make cake pops. These are so simple to make.
1 yellow cake mix
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 stick butter
¼ cup honey
2 large eggs
Colored sprinkles
1. Preheat oven to 375
2. Mix all ingredients, it will seem rather thick but that is normal. Mix one minute and scrape down sides and mix another minute
3. Pour sprinkles into bowl.
4. Make round 2 inch balls (do you really need to say round and ball in the same sentence, I used the medium pampered chef scoop)
5. Roll each ball in sprinkles
6. Bake for 8-12 minutes
7. As soon as they are pulled from the oven, push a craft stick right into the middle and let cool off.
These are great for kids. It is days like this that I wish I could have made a cute little bouquet of flowers. In my case I am taking them to church tomorrow. I am thinking of making these cake pops with a chocolate or lemon cake mix

Pray for me Monday

First, I must say these are not my pictures. But this is my community. This is just minutes from my house. So this week I ask you to pray for all of those who are injured and without a home tonight. Our power came back home around 3pm tonight. My house had no damage and my family was not aware there was a issue until the electricity went out.

Dish soap

I saw this trick on the doctors and honestly my first thought was there is no way this works. We always need more boo boo packs. So I thought I would try it. And since it is my girls who normally need ice I decided to use purple dishsoap. The process is easy. Pour dishsoap into a Ziploc and lay it flat in your freezer. Then when the boo boo comes just run to the freezer and pick up the pack. I love this because it does not get rock hard.
Do you watch the doctors? I try to off and on. But it is in the middle of our school day and sometimes the topics are not child friendly. I would love to take my kids to see the The Doctors as a field trip.

Please pray for our town. I am not home but my family is. A tornado hit minutes from my house and flattened several buildings including a Lowes. My family has no power but are okay

stinky, stinky, stinky

Having a soldier for a husband means you do not see a beard. I had to giggle when he texted me a picture of his beard. When I opened the pictures and saw a picture of a toilet I had to giggle. I did delete the picture of the inside of a toilet. Why would you want a picture of that. When they came out of the mountains they stayed at my mom's. She called me laughing. She said she walked in the laundry room and thought what is that smell. So she walked into the livingroom and had that same horrible smell. Then she realized it was not something in her house. It was my boys. I think it took a weeks worth of soap and hot water to make them smell close to normal.

Being goofy

These pictures are priceless to me. I love that the men in my life spent a week together. And to see my husband and father in law act goofy together brings tears to my eyes.
