Goat Milk

And we have milk.
Milk from my back yard. So far the kids are not complaining. I am even cookin with it and so far it is wonderful.

It is more work than I realized but that is okay too. As silly as it sounds I actually enjoy taking out the pen.

Chicks

Our babies are getting so big and starting to fly around. They are also starting to come to us and bond. Do chickens bond? If not do not tell me because I  am loving this life. Next week we began our coop. So far they have enjoyed there first trip outside.

Scones, Scones and more Scones

Scones, scones and more scones. I forgot how much I love scones. This week we were meeting friends for breakfast so I made scones. I see lots more scones in my future. Today I made chocolate chip scones and pumpkin scones. I am thinking I will make cinnamon  scones for this weekend.
You can find these recipes here and here. The only changes I made was to double the recipe and I used goats milk instead of regular milk.

You can find all these amazing scone recipes on my Pinterest page. If you have a scone recipe I would love to try it. Pamela

Toes

Feet are gross. I can't stand all the open toe shoes during summer. Yes that includes my own toes. But these little toes are oh la la. I actually took him out in public with no socks so I could keep looking at these toes.

House Guest

My children found this little creature in the yard. His mom drowned. They were totally convinced I would let them raise it.

When I told them dad would shoot it they decided it was better to let it go.

Poor Puppy

Poor baby has had a rough week. First she wanted to play with the goats and tore the pad off her foot. Then we had crazy storms and I would not let her outside to attack that storm.

Modesty

I love this girl. We have had the best week. First I took her shopping that turned into shopping for her first pair of wedges. When did my little girl become big enough to wear shoes that make her taller than me.
For Mother's Day she took me to the movies to see Mom's Night Out. A amazing movie. But that is another post.
After the movies we went to walmart. A man walked up to me and told me he liked my dress. He does not know it but that was a huge compliment. Why do I care what some strange man thinks of me. I could not even tell you what them was wearing. But I can tell you what I was wearing a t-shirt and a skirt past my ankles. It was a perfect time to remind Faith that modesty is beautiful. And beautiful is not skin tight clothes and short skirts.

Narobi Zoo

Moving here has been such a blessing to our family. One or the benefits to living here is the amazing FRG and the USO.
This month the FRG took a trip to Narobi Zoo. The kids had a great time. I honestly laughed because the kids had to spend money to feed the goats. I reminded them that they have goats at home they could feed.

Responsibility and Love

Why did I want goats and milk. Well first for the eggs and milk. But the therapy it brings my kids. The love of a pet is amazing. Taking care of a animal when you are tired teaches you so much.

Seriously who would not want a goat or two in your living room.

My Heart

Is this not the most precious picture? It means so much to me for many reasons. The biggest is that James is never far from me. So when he let go of my hand for daddies I was floored and maybe a little jealous.
I do not know how I got to lucky to have a man in my life who loves our blessings so much, who works so hard to provide for his family. This man does not just work and come home. He is a hands on dad. He takes them fishing and teaches them everything he knows.
In my book every day should be Fathers Day.

Goats, Chickens and Doing This

We are doing it, we are really doing this. What is the this I am talking about? I am making more from scratch. We have been milking our goats for a few weeks. I knew I could convince the kids to drink it but I had not convinced myself to cook with it.
So this morning, I made buttermilk using goats milk, I made scrambled eggs and even frosting for the cinnamon rolls. I love being able to feed my family without running to the store every day. These eggs came from a friends farm. She is going to help us with fresh eggs until our little ladies start laying. Oh the difference, they seem bigger and thicker and the taste is amazing.

Hold On Tight

This child makes me cry and scream almost daily. Begs to hold the baby and then is reckless with him. You see right after this picture she lifted both arms.
I was so excited that our chickens survived three weeks in our house. Sadly, the girls were in the coop and she stepped on one. I know it broke her heart. But then she threw it in the air to see if she could make it fly. I think she really thought she could make it live.

Chicken Coop

Day one of our new chicken coop. Four walls are up and the flooring is down.
These little birds are flying around my bathroom now. I cannot wait to get them outside.

A New Flag

Have I told you how much I love the porch on our new house. It was one of the main selling points. I love that the kids can play outside on the porch when it is raining. I love that I can watch the kids play in the yard. I can watch the goats and the chickens play. I can just relax. But my beautiful porch was missing something. It was missing a flag. Every home needs a flag. I wanted a flag that would hold up to the winds we have and that would maintain it's color. I wanted a flag that could be seen from the road. I got all of the above and so much more. When I found Gettysburg Flag Works I knew I found the right place. I picked the flag I wanted to hang on our porch and it seemed like it was here over night. It was packed in a way that made me feel like the flag was shown respect. What I did not realize after looking at there site is how amazing the quality would be. I could not wait to hang it. The nylon is thick so it should not tear in the wind. I have seen so many more wonderful products from Gettysburg Flag Works that will find a home at my house. I love the American flag I ordered but that is not all they offer. You can find flags for your bicycle which is a great safety feature. They also have decorative flags for your home. I love the flag hanging on our porch but my husband is moving it to the yard. I cannot wait to see it flapping in the wind.

Mother's Day

Mothering is my life and I do not take this privilege lightly. The days are long the nights are short.
But daily I look at these blessings and am reminded that they are only mine to care for. They are a gift and I am going to cherish every minute of them.

Tired

We have been working outside a lot recently. We are getting goats and chickens this week. I love how the kids collapse when it is bedtime. Now if only I could do that.

I Just Wanted a Shower

Epic Fail, I made these delicious amazing chocolate chip cookies and then.... I took a shower and no one pulled them out of the oven. That's okay I can try again.

Bathroom Issues

My poor children. Tonight my teenage boy informed me it is weird to shower in the bathroom with 22 baby chickens (they are girls), then my daughter informed me it was not okay to use the upstairs restroom because a baby boy goat is still in the shower.
Poor kids may have to have a porta potty delivered.
I on the other hand am wondering how hard it would be to keep a goat inside forever. Seriously look at his little ears.

Milking

So we tried our hand at milking and while we did not get much we did get some. Enough to encourage us to keep trying.
I know it is going to take time and I am willing to give it that time. I look forward to the time we no longer need to run to the store to buy milk.
But for today I will just enjoy that we got something and that these little blessings are coming to us and letting us touch them.

Learning the Word No

He may not be ready for a plate of food but he is ready to learn to set at the table.
As a matter of fact this week I found myself telling him no. It almost made me sad. It was something as simple as grabbing my laptop. So I just said no and moved his hand. It took several times but he finally caught on.
I am not going to lie it would have been easier to just sat him in the floor but that is not training.
Today I feel blessed that I have this chance to train this blessing.

Banana Ice Cream

2 banana's frozen
1 cup almond milk
1 Tbsp Nutella or peanut butter
Let bananas set out of five minutes
Pour ingredients into food processor and turn on
Honestly, I like to just use bananas but will add extras for the kids. Today I added almond milk and Nutella. Jacob thought it was wonderful.

Time Out or Good Behavior

We have struggled with following the rules at the YMCA recently. I don't know if it is because dad is gone or all the changes or what. Today we got a good report. So today he got to spend time on the rock wall. I love when I can find rewards that match the action. The kid gym (Childcare) is amazing and has every thing he could want to keep him busy. But the teen area (as my kids call it) had a rock wall. So before we leave if he did not get a time out then he gets time in the teen area.

Sleeping and Testing

Oh sweet precious boy how I love you. I love how cuddly you are and how much you long to please me. I do not know what is going on right now to have you testing me so much but you we will get through this. I love you so much, I love to watch you sleep.

Having a Baby

Yesterday driving to learn about goats

Child one: we should make it so the baby boy can not have babies

Child two: no we should have babies

Me: we could make our boy not have babies and then rent a daddy

Child one: how will the goats know what to do to make a baby

Me: if you leave them alone they will figure it out

Child two: so if we leave you and dad alone you will give us another baby

Me: yeah something like that

Child two: okay so we will take Jacob at night and in about a year we will have another baby

Doesn't he look big enough to be a big brother. No this is not a announcement.

Sleeping Baby

This little girl is always available to help me. She loves to hold the baby and he loves to be held. She can fix just about anything and cook better than most. Honestly he would never sleep like this if he was put in a bed.

Baby Food

Jacob says why eat baby food when he can have the real thing.

Sharing is Caring

Jacob has started stealing my food on a daily basis. He now eats my oatmeal and will eat yogurt all the time.
Today he took my apples and was not going to give them back.

Beautiful Land

Do you see this patch of torn up earth. This will turn into our garden. It actually is a beautiful reminder that God provides and continues to take care of me.
You see I do not really know the person who tilled my garden. He is the same person who plowed my drive way. I called him twice to plow before he admitted he does not plow drive ways for a living. He was just doing it to be nice. I picked up the wrong business card.
I cannot get over how nice everyone is around here.
