No Good Rotten Day

The no good rotten day. Have you read that book? Cute book but sometimes I think I live that day. Only for me that day was yesterday and it was not a day but a couple of hours.
We set down for dinner and the baby throws his plate to the floor. No big deal, right? So I feed him off my plate. Then I realize when I am not looking he is taking it out of his mouth and throwing it. No big deal, right? So I take him away from the table and finish eating. He goes into the kitchen and dumps a huge box of cereal all over the floor. Okay, now it is becoming a big deal.
As I am getting him dressed I hear screaming from the kitchen. The dog has been sick in the kitchen. Not normal so I tell myself, no big deal. Then the four year old starts playing in it before I can get done changing the baby. Now I am just mad and annoyed but tell myself it is okay because we have church in a hour and u can let everyone go to class and set and listen. Oh wait, I have nursey. No big deal because I honestly love working in the nursery. At least no one throws a plate of food at you.  At this point I call my husband who is away with work to complain and he says well your day can't get any worse.
So we leave for church but I have a soap delivery on the way. Drop off the soap. As I am walking back to the car I swallow a bug. As I am gagging I am telling myself okay this is not a huge deal. Only I start gagging. The kids won't stop talking and someone is patting me on the back. In the end I am in a strange neighborhood Upchucking in the middle of the road. THID IS A BIG DEAL! You see in the last 18 years I have only upchucked one or two times. I cannot handle up chuck.
So I call my husband after I calm down. Did I mention he is staying on the beach. You know open the door and you see ocean. His reply was, oh your day can get worse.
Honestly he is the best husband ever and would do anything if I asked him to. But really what can he do when he is far away.  We went to church and the day got better. There is something about being near believers that reminds you how great your day really was.

Cajeta

Cajeta, I have never heard it called this before but could not wait to try it. I have made caramel using sweetened condensed milk before but never used our raw goats milk.
This is a super simple recipe.
1 gallon milk
4 cups sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla
Heat in sauce pan until dissolved
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
Add to milk mixture and cook
Do not let boil but simmer.
How long do you simmer, hmm I am thinking maybe 5 hours. Stirring every few minutes and making sure nothing sticks to the bottom of the pan
Over time it will turn this beautiful golden tan color and thicken up.
I serve mine several ways:
1 we use it in coffee
2 I cut up apples and bananas to dip in it
3 I cut up apples and lay in a pie pam and cover with this yumminess.

How would you serve it?

Chicken Holes

These beautiful chickens dig holes deeper than my dogs do.
I love how they dig holes to bath in. Reminds me of my boys playing in the dirt.

I cannot wait until we start mowing the grass so they can have the clippings.

Taking Advantage of Me

Dad was out of town this week and the kids took full advantage of me.
I cannot say that I mind. I love snuggling up with them in the middle of the night.

Homemade Chapstick

I love making Chapstick. Super simple to make. Beeswax and coconut oil melted together. Then add your favorite essential oils. Today we made lavender, orange and lemon.
I love the way it feels on my lips. I love that I know what is in the chap stick. I think next we will make lime.

Date Night-Updated

Updated: My life is funny, I was going to just edit this post but then I thought it would just be more fun to leave it like it is and see who can find the comical sentence. Especially since I have joked about sister wives.
Date night is over but it was fun while it lasted. Tonight we made strawberry, lemonade, cucumber melon, black raspberry vanilla, tangerine and hot apple pie soap. We also made lotion bars and lotion. So much fun. I enjoy working with my husbands. Because we have to concentrate on we cannot talk about anything too serious. Because I am always messing something up we have plenty to laugh about.
How do you date your spouse? For me it is about being together and enjoying one another. I cannot wait to cut these tonight. We also plan on making birthday cake soap and coconut soap tonight.

Quiet Time

Sometimes I forget about some simple tricks. We had friends over. After lunch they wanted to watch a movie. But we all know that last about three minutes before someone starts wrestling. So I gave each person a spot and asked that they stay on that spot. It worked for a good thirty minutes.
I was happy with thirty minutes. They had just enough rest time to get them through another hour of playing.

Hard Working Dogs

This poor dog has to work hard all day guarding our house and animals. He has to make sure each person has been loved on.
By the time the sunsets he is too tired to go on and must nap.
I know he came from a pyranese rescue but honestly he rescued us.

She Just Wanted Alone Time

Some days your math has to be done under the piano bench so little brothers will leave you alone. Sometimes little brothers find you and insist upon helping you with that math and you just let them.
On a side note look at those long legs.

The Youngest and Oldest

Tears, this is my youngest and my oldest. When did he get so big and how do I keep him at this perfect age.
When days are long and the dirty laundry is taller than me I am reminded that it is only for a day.
For today I will look at these faces and remember to be grateful for each day.
By the way, isn't that baby goat adorable. We won't mention to my husband that the goat was in the house.

Security

I love my husband. He takes delight in watching us on our home cameras.  I don't mind knowing he loves us even when he is not home.
I hate when he has to travel for work. Especially when his travel means he is at Te beach and the sun is shinning. Okay maybe I don't mind but I am jealous of him.

Admitting our Addition

We have a addiction. I guess I will admit it. Please do not judge me for our addition. It gives us something to do together. It gives us a goal to work together on.
The problem with that addiction is that it is taking up a lot of space. It was okay when our addiction stayed in the craft room but now it is in our study. I know it will only be here for a month and it smells amazing but seriously who has a fold up table in your living room.
Do you have any addictions you need to admit to? Hi, my name is Pam and I am addicted to making soap and lotion and Chapstick.
If you would like to help me regain my study and get rid of some soap please email me at prmpetrie@yahoo.com

Goats Milk Laundry Soap

Today we used up our goats milk soap that did not look great. The recipe is super easy.
 1 cup shredded soap
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda.
Mix in a large bowl. I let the kids do this  and they loved it. Then put it in mason jars. You can add essenti oils and I might next time but this time I wanted to try it without.
I would use 1-2 tablespoons per load, maybe a little more for stains or cloth diapers.

Married Dogs

I wonder if our dogs think they are married? It is always fun watching her snuggle up to him. When he goes outside without him she has to sniff his ears and smell his belly.

Cleaning Bathrooms

I love this boy. Not only does his bubble bath help him get clean but he also cleans the walls and the floors for me.
I honestly enjoy bath time. For those thirty minutes I know where he is. Often I will take a book into the bathroom with me and have one of the other kids read books to me.

Animals in the House

We are a animal loving family. I try to keep most of the animals outside but some how they continue to come in. This baby goat thought my hair tasted great.
Sometimes I find food in the dogs hair. Poor dog does not mind when he can eat it but when it is on his back that is not fair.

Honest I do not mind. As long as they clean up after the animals.

Jean Aprons

Have you see how they cut the bottoms off jeans to make a apron. I gave it a quick try on a pair of stained up pants. Guess what it works.
I cannot wait to make more of these cute little aprons. Maybe see a little fabric around the bottom to wipe your hands on.

Praying

Look past the dirty traveling high chair and look at those little hands. Those are praying hands.
He has started praying before every meal and any other time we pray. The other day the kids gave him a snack in the car but he would not eat and kept yelling it for me. It finally dawned on me so we stopped for a second and prayed. Then he happily ate his snack. I love when they learn to pray. Such a precious sight.

Little Brother is Always Watching

Grace has started to pray on her knees. I love that she is willing to do this. But this morning during devotions Jacob thought this meant she wanted to wrestle and ran over and started hitting her in the back. Needless to say but our quiet time was over.
When big brother got put in the corner for not obeying Jacob joined him. Yes I know it is silly to put your 18 year old in the corner. I said whoever did not do chores would stand in the corner. It is more about knowing the younger kids are watching and learning from his actions.
The other day when we were praying he decided to just hug his big brother. I am going to be honest there are days, lots of days I want to skip our morning devotions. We have a lot to do and the kids are taking forever to do morning chores. Then these moments happen and I remind myself why we start our day in the Word.

Baby Goats

Our babies are doing great. They have both gained over three pounds in the last week.
They have been spending lots of time in the yard with the big goats. It makes me nervous but they love it.
