Wordfull Wednesday
I do not think I could ever write a wordless Wednesday post because I am so full of words.
We planted a raspberry bush a couple of years ago. This year we actually got raspberries. Sadly, I do not know how many because a certain little girl will not stop sneaking them and eating them.
I wonder if we will be here next year and if we are I wonder if my blueberry bushes will give me blueberries. Not that I would ever know because if a child finds them before I do then they eat them and I think they are not growing.

The Day We Were Robbed
Do you remember this picture, the picture of my children singing with dad in his truck? It was after bedtime. We had just gotten home from church. Grace rode home with dad and was singing Grease songs (I can’t believe I am admitting that). Unfortunately we were so distracted with the singing and playing that when we went in we forgot to lock the vehicles and bring everything inside. Something we normally do. We live in a quiet neighborhood. We have lived here 3 years and never had any problems.
The next morning my husband woke me up at am and informed me that his truck had been broken into. I walked outside and realized my suburban had been broken into. As my husband called the police I realized that my neighbor’s trunks were popped open and something was laying in another neighbor’s yard.
It took several minutes for me to realize that my purse was gone. Which means my date book was gone. My military ID was gone. If you know anything about the military you know they will not allow you to go to the doctor without them.
The police came and we realized quickly that we were not the only ones who had been robbed. When we left the house at 8am to go on post to get new ID’s there were six sheriff’s cars on my street.
God is so good because they let me on post with a expired passport and let me get new ID’s using only my expired passport. We got our new ID’s. I called the state my driver’s license is from and they worked it out to send me a temporary driver’s license. These were the two biggest stressors. Well besides not having my date book.
That afternoon we were at my husband’s work picnic when we got the craziest phone call. The deputy called to say they found my purse. It was under my neighbor’s tree. The crazy thing was that they had not taken anything. We think they may have spooked when my husband came out that morning. My ID’s, my license, my date book and even my spare pair of maternity underwear that I carry in case I have to go to the hospital. Doesn’t everyone carry maternity underwear in there purse. Not so excited about it when I saw them laying there for everyone to see. I did have to fight the urge to jump up and down when I saw my date book.
An hour late CSI came to my house to finger print everything. Talk about a mess. I have black powder everywhere. Not just everywhere but on everything. Not just on everything but inside of everything.
In all 12 houses in my quiet small subdivision, I do not know how many cars total but most people had more than one car. They even hit a car parked right next to a deputy’s squad car. Now that is a person with some guts.

So how do I praise in this time. I praise that while they did get a lap top and two IPODS from our vehicles they did not get my driver’s license. That while they took my husband’s allergy medicine they left the medicine that he takes daily. I am praising because we have insurance, praising that no one was hurt. So for today I choose to pray for the person/people who made my safe neighborhood not feel safe.
Have you ever been robbed? How did you help your child feel safe afterwards? How did you help yourself feel safe afterwards?
