Frugal Friday

My frugal tip this week is laundry soap. My hero actually loves making our laundry soap. I shared the recipe here. It cost us 18 cents a gallon. We make a 5 gallon bucket at a time. We have tried making the powder and it works just as well but it does not last as long.

I am so grateful to have a amazing husband who supports me and encourages me and well who puts up with me. I have wanted to quilt for a long time but have not had the guts. So last week when I was in Hancocks the lady helped me pick colors and know what I needed to buy. My wonderful husband helped me cut all the fabric out. Then he took me back to the store and bought the backing (he picked it). He helped me for 2 nights to get it put together. He never complained and when we were done he even said I could do another one, although he knows it means I will need his help again. I can not wait to go back to the store to try it again. He also insisted that this is now the quilt on our bed because WE made it together. I am telling you ladies I love this man.

Wordless Wednesday

What is this you may be asking, this is how I packed for my hero to take the kids away for a week. I have always hung the kids clothes by outfits until they are old enough to pick out there own clothes. It means my hero does not have to try to match outfits. So when he was taking the kids camping I took each outfit and added undergarments and then put them in a bread bag and rolled it as tight as I could. Then I put a label with that childs name on it. It helped everyone involved and made more room in the suitcase.

home made poptarts

I know I have done this before but this time we made our own pasty shells and WOW so yummy.

We have made home made poptarts several times. I have bought pre made pastry shells and cut them which are quick and easy but pricey. This time I made Pioneer Woman pasty dough. These freeze great and then you just plop them in the toaster.

strawberry jam or any other flavor you like. Our favorite is to coat in butter and then put brown sugar on them.
1. roll out dough and cut into squares
2. i put my dough on parchment paper and then put jam on top of pasty, layered with another pastry
3. bake 350 for 10-12 minutes
4. i took them off the parchment paper as soon as they come out of the oven so that the jam that had come out of the sides would not have time to harden
5. I did add a powder sugar icing to the top
These turned out better than I thought. I can not wait to get moved and re try them and try to freeze them

home made pizza

I wanted to post his as Frugal Friday but I do not think anyone is doing that anymore. For a few years now we have had pizza on Friday nights. We love it. But when I got to thinking about it we were spending at least $80 a month on pizza not including the other times we eat out. For a while we were making our own crust and I have a great recipe for that. But then we would get busy and not make it. Which meant we were back to ordering it. My husband found the solution. He bought 15 large pizza crust that stays in the freezer for $17 at Sam's. We love there pizza. This way everyone gets what they like and it is quicker and so much cheaper than ordering it
