Military Monday

Not much is going on in our life that revolves around the military. Except they are letting my husband take a week off and I am thrilled. He is taking my son to the mountains with my father in law. They are going to bond and talk and do boy things that I do not allow within a mile of my house.
So I guess today I want to talk about how you bond with your child when you deploy constantly.
So far my girls do not seem to have been affected by my hero’s deployments. But my son is a teen and it has been hard on him. So we have to make an effort to make sure they work on their relationship. It will not always be possible for them to go away for a week together. As a matter of fact it has been about 5 years since they have done it. So when my husband is home we make an effort to let him have time to bond with each child. Rather it is a day at the lake, a trip to the mountains or even a trip to the toy store to make a wish list. It is all about time to talk about their hopes and dreams and worries.
Something I have realized is my son may say he does not need time alone with my husband and he may not have deep conversations but he does need it. And eventually he will bring up something that lets us know how special it was. So I guess today I talk more to the dad’s. I encourage you to be the scout leader, go to the dance practice, and teach them to check tire pressure or just take a walk around the block. Even if they are only home for 6 months.
Our goal is not for them to forget the deployments but to remember that when dad was home he was around and involved as much as he could be.
So my next question is how do you encourage your children to bond with their dad?
In case you missed it last week I have 50 Army wife bumper stickers to give away courtesy of buildasign.com. Just send me your address to prmpetrie@yahoo.com

No Mom talk Monday

No mom talk, Let me think about this one. This is always really hard for me but worth it in the end.
So this week I want to talk about………….birds chirping………….Today I will talk about …………man this is hard………….
Okay, okay for real I will talk about how I learned to drive. The first time I learned to drive. I was 16 and my boyfriend (
now husband) took me to a cemetery to drive his car. Let’s just say it did not go well. A year later I moved out on my own. Not just out on my own but 10 hours from home. I had bought myself a car and my mom drove it to my new home and left it for me.
A few days later I called my boyfriends mom to ask what time she was picking me up. She was going to take me driving so I could prepare for my license. She said she would see me in an hour. Thirty minutes later I should up in her drive way.
See there is something you do not know about me. I am a control freak. I decided when I hung up from talking to her that I would teach myself. I lived out in the country so I got in my car and slowly drove the back windy roads to her house.
So who taught you to drive and was it a pleasurable experience?

Grilled Pizza

Recently my husband bought this thing that we call the BEAST. One of the first things we wanted to try was grilled pizza. I found several ways to make grilled pizza. My husband found this way.
Make your basic pizza dough, my favorite pizza dough recipe is here.
Assemble pizza as normal.
Take 2 soda cans and lay on the pizza grate and then put your pizza pan on top of them.
Close the lid and bake until done. I think it took about ten minutes.
Have you tried making grilled pizza and if so how did you do it?

I didn't know I was pregnant

Yesterday I told you about my dream of our house being on fire. Well last night I dreamed I was pregnant and did not know. I went to the DR for something non pregnancy related. We started talking and realized I was 39 weeks pregnant. After she told me I was pregnant I said “oh yeah”. In my brain I remembered I had gone to my first few pre natal appointments and forgot to go to anyone else. Then not only that I had been taking home test every month and they had been negative and then every month I would start what I thought was my cycle. At the end of the dream I was trying to arrange childcare and pack a bag because it was time to go to the hospital and I had only realized I was pregnant a couple of days.
Who knows why I had this dream. Have you ever seen the show I didn’t know I was pregnant? Well I guess I had my own I didn’t know I was pregnant dream. Except what is funny is that I had just forgotten I was pregnant. By the way I am NOT pregnant

Fleece blankets

A couple of weeks ago the girls helped make blankets to be given to foster children. It was a really easy project. You can do it with one piece of fleece or two. First you cut a 3*3 corner on each corner.
Then you cut one inch strips.
Now the hard part. Tie the top piece to the bottom piece.

It is super easy. You can get the fleece on sale or even use a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby.
