No Mom talk Monday

I wish my kids rooms were cleaner right now. My young girls room is horses. My daughters room is actually the only one that looks decorated. she has flowered bedding with flowers on the wall and big green chairs. My poor sons room has nothing. It literally has a bed, dresser and bookshelf. He has nothing on his walls because we can not agree on what to do. He is too old for video game posters but we can not find fencing posters for him. I did buy him a new comforter and curtains recently because it kills me that his looks like the forgotten room. So if you have any idea where to buy fencing decorations please let me know.

No Mom talk Monday

How did you get your engagement ring? Do you love it; did you love it the day you got it? I thought I would share with you how I got mine. I am going to tell you a secret that my husband does not know. Well since he reads my blog he will soon know, so I guess I better tell him tonight. He probably kind of knows anyways.
My husband and I lived together before we were married. Neither of us intended it. He visited me from out of town and just never left. He has never proposed (one day I have hopes of it and give him a hard time of it). As soon as he moved in we knew we would get married. So one weekend we went home to visit. I knew he was going to my favorite jewelry store that day. I knew what our budget could afford. So that day while he was visiting friends my mom and I went to that store and picked out three rings that I like. Then we convinced the woman behind the counter to push him to choose one of the three. I am controlling like that. At the time I thought this was the best thing to do. So later that day, he went shopping, and then met me back at our hotel. He walked in the room and showed me the ring box, I took the ring out of his hands and put it in my finger and we walked out the door to meet friends. I will regret that day for the rest of my life. Ephessians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Esther 1:20 Then when the king's edict is proclaimed throughout all his vast realm, all the women will respect their husbands, from the least to the greatest."
I have one other regret (well one of many). I decided that I would never say “obey” to my husband. I even had my minister take it out of the wedding vows. I wish someone would have shaken me back then and explained what those words meant.
In my dreams, I dream of him proposing to me. I dream of a wedding that is sincere and honest. I dream of putting God first in our marriage. We do work on that daily but I wish we would have from the beginning. How awesome would it be to re new our vows now with our children in the ceremony?
And who knows maybe a tornado would not hit during this wedding knocking out the electricity and leaving visitors stranded on the side of the road.

No Mom talk Monday

No mom talk, I am up early because I had a lot on my mind and thought okay just get out of bed and get started. So I got out of bed and then got on the computer. Real smart, I know.
Today is a busy day and I am looking forward to it. I am icing two sheet cakes I made last night for a promotion ceremony and I am slightly (crazy nervous). But the reason I tell you is because this evening I am going on a date with my husband. We are going to a promotion ceremony and then to dinner.
So today I have to ask, do you date your husband and if so how? Sometimes it is a quick dinner; sometimes it is a trip to the grocery store alone. Sometimes we put the kids (I know no mom talk) in bed early and snuggle on the couch and watch a movie.
It is so easy to make excuses and put our husband last but when I am right with him I am right with the world.
I remember when we had no money after bills and I thought that we would never be alone again. That is when I learned about movie night. You turn the lights down low and set the table with a table cloth, if you do not have one use a flat sheet. The lights are low and no one will know. Put a couple of candles on the table. Even if it is dollar tree candles. Make a dinner, even cooking a frozen pizza. I mean how often do we go out for pizza so what is the difference. Then eat slowly. Talk, talk about goals for the next year or month or 10 years. Sometimes we will do something fun like one of those silly survey’s.

No Mom talk Monday

Last week I had a hard time talking about myself. This week it came to me pretty easily. I want to tell you about all the things I have done in my life.
When I was in sixth grade I played cello and was a safety patrol. I carried my cello home from school. I sometimes miss playing it.
When I was in seventh grade and eighth grade I played the flute and loved it. I wanted to play piccolo but they said you had to play saxophone first and I did not want to. One day I got mad at my band teacher and thought it would be cool to stick my middle finger in my flute and give it to her. Sounded good until I got my middle finger stuck in there! WOW I hope my kids never read this.
I did not play a instrument in high school for two reasons. First, I had dated a guy in the band and did not want to be around him. Second I never learned to read music and knew that in high school I would not be allowed to write in the notes.
In high school I took typing but never learned to do much more than hunt and peck. I can now type without looking and while watching tv. I think some things just need to be practiced.
I have learned to sew in the last year but have not advanced in what I was taught.
So I have a question. What can you do well? What do you wish you would be able to do better? What hobby would you love to have or work on?
I really want to work on my sewing skills and on my cake decorating skills. If I could pick a hobby to do well, it would be singing. I would love to be able to sing without hurting the ears of those around me.

No Mom talk Monday

No mom talk, Let me think about this one. This is always really hard for me but worth it in the end.
So this week I want to talk about………….birds chirping………….Today I will talk about …………man this is hard………….
Okay, okay for real I will talk about how I learned to drive. The first time I learned to drive. I was 16 and my boyfriend (
now husband) took me to a cemetery to drive his car. Let’s just say it did not go well. A year later I moved out on my own. Not just out on my own but 10 hours from home. I had bought myself a car and my mom drove it to my new home and left it for me.
A few days later I called my boyfriends mom to ask what time she was picking me up. She was going to take me driving so I could prepare for my license. She said she would see me in an hour. Thirty minutes later I should up in her drive way.
See there is something you do not know about me. I am a control freak. I decided when I hung up from talking to her that I would teach myself. I lived out in the country so I got in my car and slowly drove the back windy roads to her house.
So who taught you to drive and was it a pleasurable experience?

No Mom talk Monday

No mom talk Monday is hard for me this week. I have been setting here thinking about what to talk about. So let me think…………….birds chirping……………… any suggestions? NO!! Well then what can I write on?
Okay, how about I write on decorating. Nope, you would not want help from me.
I know, I know, I know!! How about we talk about how we dress. How do you dress? Is it stylish, is it conservative, is it hip? Me, I dress like those ladies you see on What not to wear. Actually my dream would be to be told I was going to be on that show. Only I had 6 month warning so I would be motivated to lose weight and get healthy.
I love long skirt, I love how they feel, how they look. The problem is until last week I always wore solid color skirts. Last week I caught myself running in the rain for several minutes. The problem with this is that I was not close to home but still had places to go. So I went to my favorite stores. I went to Cato’s. I love Cato’s because they have clothes that fit me. They convinced me to buy a skirt with color. It is white with gray and black something’s on it (I think they are flowers) and turquoise flowers. I think this may be my new favorite skirt. Who knows the new me may include color or patterns in her wardrobe.
Now the bra I bought is a torcher chamber. It is made to change the straps around but it is padded (something I do NOT need) and then it has these metal hooks right in my arm pit.

No Mom talk Monday

So this week on NO MOM TALK and Miscellany Monday, I want to talk to you about some questions I have. Questions like why do hair stylist have cool hair designs and look like they style their hair daily, But nail salon employees do not have fancy nails. WEIRD! Why did my vet take my dog’s bowel and then charge us to dispose it? Why did I have to be charged for both? Why when we got new tires this week did they charge us for our new tires and for our old ones. I would think they would pay us for our old one. Why do we wear best clothes and whitest under garments to our yearly exam only to be told to get naked as soon as we get there? Most importantly how did my gerbil get detached from its head while still in its cage and should we get rid of the second gerbil? If I do get rid of the second gerbil, how do I do that? Why oh why? Please help me understand these things before I lose my mind. Okay, one more why question. Why does no one want to buy flowers from my girls? It is a great deal. Hint hint!

No Mom talk Monday

This week I want to take a minute to stop and talk about my love of sewing. I think it started in middle school when we made aprons. Only then I did not take the time to learn. I actually flirted with a boy so he would thread my needle and do the work for me. So glad we serve a restoring God who has helped me not be that girl today.
Anyways for many years I wanted to learn to sew. I mentioned this to several of my friends. Several offered to help me but I never took them up on it. That was until this time last year. I was getting ready to move from AL to NC and my homeshcool mom’s gave me a amazing going away gift. They gave me money to buy a machine. One even took me shopping to buy the machine and the extra things I might need. She also had me over several times to teach me some basics. I think I fell in love and a couple of weeks later when the movers and my sewing machine got moved to the bathroom so that they did not pack it. It actually rode in the van with me.
I have not learned many new skills but have enjoyed what I do know. I have made countless amounts of pillowcase dresses and skirts and more camera strap covers than I will admit. I also made my first quilt this fall with my husband. That was probably my favorite thing and I cannot wait to make a second and third and fourth one. I love working on things with my husband. Rather it be re modeling a kitchen or painting a room. He is amazing and while we do not always get along on a daily basis when it comes to working together we ROCK!
