Pinapple Upside down cake

Are you looking for a easy idea for a bake sale, something that looks like it is alot of work but is SOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to make. A couple of years ago I was doing alot of bake sales and one of the ladies always brought pineapple upside down cakes. I am not totally hooked. They are so easy. Buy a boxed pineapple upside down cake mix and a can of pineapple slices and then
1. melt butter and pour in pan
2. sprinkle brown sugar over the butter
3. layer pineapple slices in bottom of pan, some people put a cherry inside each pineapple but I always forget
4. mix the cake mix and pour over the pineapples
bake according to box, then flip it over and you have a beautiful yummy cake. One that never last long enough for a picture here.

Friend making Monday

This one is really fun because it let's you get to know me more. Here we go:
I like: to try out new things and carnivals on my blog
I don't like: when I am hateful to my husband or my children, they do not deserve my attitude
I dream of: fleas last night, as in bug bites all over me although it has been years since I have been bitten by a flea
I wonder: if I will ever get my act together and put God first in my life the way I know I should
I know: That I serve a risen saviour who is patient with me and there for me even when I neglect him
I went: to Polland to buy Polish pottery way more than I needed to
I have: a amazing husband who is a amazing father to our children
I think: I am the luckiest person in the world and sometimes forget that and forget to be grateful for it
I plan: to spend next weekend ALONE with my husband and talking for hours
I regret: The things I have said to people in the past that may have hurt them
I do: want to be better with school this year and make sure we get all of our goals done
I drink: more mountain dew than should be allowed
I wish: my husband could retire, we could have a small farm with lots of land and spend everyday together
I am: WAY over weight
I am not: anerexic any more
I need: to get my act together and take better care of my body
I hope: my husband does not deploy for a very long time and is home with us
I want: my children to grow up loving me and thinking I did the best I could with them
I always: hug my children and tell them I love them
I can: make bread and bake brownies and feed my family home cooked meals
I work: on my relationship with Christ daily
I cannot: let others come between me and my husband even though it would be more fun sometimes
I avoid: salads at all cost
I will: try this again next week, it is really fun

Not Me Monday

Mckmama- Not Me Monday
Not me AGAIN, it is Monday AGAIN. Where is the time going. This week is a very weird week, let me explain.
It was not me who tried to convince my husband it was okay to leave early on his camping adventure with the kids, not me because I would never try to get a break from my kids.
It was not me who has cried almost everyday because I HATE being alone in the house for so long, not me because remember I tried to get them to leave early.
It was not me who went out Saturday morning and bought pizza and rented movies so I would not have to cook or clean all weekend. Not me because I should be saving my money for my trip.
It was not me who let my husband take the GPS with him, and even sounded confident about not needing it, not me because I totally can not get next door with out the GPS and am now totally freaking out about not having it.

Black Bean Brownies

I can not believe I forgot to take a picture of this. I guess I was trying to be sneaky. Let me just say my son has not eaten a fruit or veggy in over 10 years so this was a BIG thing.
1 can black beans (rinse them, put back in the can and fill with water to coat beans, then put in mixer and puree them)
1 box brownie mix (no oil or egg or water)
mix together and bake according to the box
They must be good because each of my children ate four before I stopped them and even Michael asked if I would make them again.

What comes between you and your husband?

When my hero returned home last month I surprised everyone by not telling everyone he was coming home including my old children. So when the kids saw him there were hugs and kisses for what seemed like forever and then finally I got to do this.

While we waited for him to be released for the night I sent this picture out by twitter and facebook. A friend of mine left a comment that has made me think daily about our relationship. She said "There are soooo many things I love about this picture.....y'all are kissing and smiling at the same time.....this really belongs on the cover of a magazine!!! ......oh yeah I also like how y'all are belly to belly with the weapon......Hot! lol"
I bet you are thinking, okay what is making you think? She said you are belly to belly with the weapon. It has really made me think about how much that gun or the Army has been between us. Not only have I been thinking about the Army coming between us but what about all the other things that we let come between us. And all the walls I put up between us before a deployment that I have to struggle to let down. I let facebook come between us, friends, nights out with the girls, me time. What about laundry and the kids, I even let the things that are important come between us and it is wrong. I am determined to put my husband first more often.
So how can I put my husband first? Well I can make sure that I think about him when I make out the menu. My husband will eat anything that is put in front of him (except sweat potatoes) and yet I cook the same meals over and over. I can make a point of listening to him when he is talking about fixing the chain saw or what he wants for his boat. I can make a point of setting next to him in church instead of putting children between us. I can go fishing with him. To me that has to be the silliest thing in the world, why would I want to set on a dock with bugs flying around for no reason. The reason is because it is something that thrills my husband. How do you put your husband first on a daily basis? I would love to hear your ideas. Let's work on this together and show our husbands why they are important.
For now I am going to stay in a camper with my husband for the weekend. A camper with no dishwasher and no internet! But you know what it is worth it because we will be smooching and talking and planning our future and just enjoying the fact that we are together and ALONE.

I do not know these ladies but thought this was cute. I saw it on another blog and thought since this is our third week of school I could use the encouragement.

Captain crunch chicken tenders

I learned about this chicken strip recipe from My Little Life. Such a easy recipe. It is the basic chicken tender only instead of coating in bread crumbs you crush up a box of Captain Crunch and coat in it. My children are in love. They could not eat it fast enough. I thought it was a little too sweet but they loved it.
Tempt my Tummy Tuesdays

I really enjoy doing these carnivals because I find so many new fun carnivals. Let me take a minute to tell you about my blog. I am a homeschool mom of four children. My husband is a soldier who recently returned home from his seventh deployment. I have recently learned to sew but would love to learn more. I love to scrapbook and make cards but have not done either for over a year. I love baking and cooking. Although honestly my husband cooks dinner probably 60% of the time.

Not Me Monday

Not me Monday is a great way to get things off my chance.
Not me this week:
I did not get upset when the Dr made me take a pregnancy test because I knew it would show up negative.
Although the Dr made me take this test and it came out NEGATIVE I still did not buy a pack of 2 test and take them when my cycle was late. Not me because I know how much that bugs my husband and I would never do it.
My DR did not totally look at me like I was a alien last week when I told her I had not used birth control in 15 years. She also could not focus on anything after I said NO birth control. Not my doctor because surely this is normal
I did not wait four months to go to the DR for my foot only to leave feeling like a stupid person for coming.
The x-ray tech did not have me stand on the exam table with a broken lock on it. She then did not say “ooh, I forgot the lock was broken”. She knew I was there because I thought I broke my foot so why would she have me stand on a table with nothing to hold onto.

Okay this is my not me Mondays just as quick as my little fingers will type because I should be doing school with my children. WAIT, I would never blog instead of doing school with my children

As soon as it was over I rolled over and snuggled with my husband and told him thank you for coming home. I know it is silly but I really do feel like this show is alot like the real army life.

My Day at the Doctor

I guess I should give you a little background. Every time my hero goes away I get hurt. Normally I do not tell many people. A couple of weeks after he left we had a crazy busy morning. I ended up spending over 2 hours at the AT&T store with four children. We stopped at Walgreens on the way home. I have a rule that my kids can have soda on Friday night (if they remember). This day I gave in and said yes you can a soda. So of course they chose the biggest soda they could find. Anyways as Hope was putting hers on the counter she missed and instead of setting it on the counter she dropped it on the top of my foot. I honestly could not breathe. I made it home but do not know how. I soaked it in Epson salt for days, iced it, and elevated it. A week later it felt better but not great. For the last four months it has hurt off and on. Over the last month it has burned. The entire top of my foot burns like crazy.
So after four months I decided I was going to the dr. I get there and they take my vitals and of course my temp was 98 (which sucks because it has been 96 for the last 6 months and I wanted her to realize this). So I go into see the dr and this was the conversation
Dr-hi
Me-hi
DR-tell me what is going on
Me- well my daughter……. And it ……
Dr- Are you on any medicine
Me-no
Dr- what birth control do you use?
Me-none
Dr- how many kids do you have?
Me- four
Dr- what birth control do you use?
Me- none (I think her head was beginning to spin)
Dr- Okay well we have to do a pregnancy test
Me- okay but it will be negative. It always is (boo hoo) are you doing blood or urine
DR- blood
Me- with tears because I am never honest with the DR, okay well if you are checking that can you run this test and this test because well I never get pregnant and I am tired all the time, I have these crazy weird pains, I lost 12 pounds the week my husband came home without changing my diet, and a bunch of other things. I asked her to do a test for Hashimoto's
Dr- oh yeah we need to do blood work. I cannot check you for Hashimoto's unless your regular thyroid comes back weird.
Me- okay what about my foot?
Dr- we cannot do anything until we have a negative pregnancy test
Me- leaving for lab
So I go to the lab and have blood work done and head back to the doctor’s office. A few minutes later they come out and tell me to head to X-ray. I assume that means I am not pregnant. So I head to X-ray and she asks if I am pregnant. I felt like screaming NO I AM NOT PREGNANT AND I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT SO STOP BUGGING ME.
Okay now this is where it gets comical. The lady who signed me in is the only person there so she does the X-Ray. She takes a bunch and then says okay I need you to stand up on the table.
Me- WHAT
She said I need you to stand up on the table. So I climb up on the table (in my skirt) and stand there while she takes the picture. There is nothing to hold onto or even grab if I start to fall. She then says okay you can get down and I wanted to scream:
HOW IN THE WORLD, I THINK MY FOOT IS BROKE, I CAN NOT EXACTLY JUMP DOWN.
So as I try to climb down the table starts moving like a surf board. She said OH, I forgot the lock is broke. So she comes over and sets on the table.
So I head back to the Dr Office (all in the same building). It is now 4:15 and they close at 4:30. At 4:28 the DR calls me in and says my foot is not broken, that I have deep tissue bruising. So I asked how I treat that. Here is our conversation
Me-so how do I treat that?
DR- rests, stay off of it, ice it, wear good shoes, and take ibuprofen (3- 800 mil a day)
Me- how long before it is better
DR- a long time
Me- so like 3-6 months
DR- no, like 3 weeks
Me- it has been 4 MONTHS
DR- looks at the X-Ray again and then says well it is not broken it will just take a while.
Me- okay they said part of my blood work was back
DR- your normal stuff looks good; all your counts look good. Your blood sugar was 87 which is great
Me- I drank a 20 ounce mountain dew within a hour of the test does that affect it
DR- no it is good
Me- okay thanks
So I left feeling like I had just wasted the last 3 hours of my life. I am going to take half the ibuprofen and wait two weeks and if it still burns like this then I am going back. Maybe by then the rest of my blood work will be done. They do not call you unless something is wrong.
What is your thought? I think her brain shut down as soon as I said I do not use birth control.

Not Me Monday

Thank you Mckmama for hosting this because man oh man do I always need to vent, confess. It is one in the same right.
First of all it is not my blog that is acting funky and is not centered. My blog knows that I won this layout and paid extra for several things so it would not be acting up 6 months later. It is my blog readers who will surely explain what is wrong to me.
It is not me who is too lazy to go back and see if I have written these because of course I spend hours editing my post.
It is not my 10 year old who has been using scissors to cut the hair on her legs. It is not my 7 year old who kept this secret.
It is not me who hurt her foot 4 months ago and never went to the doctor. It is not me who finally called to get a appointment today and had to be embarrassed that it took 4 months to make one.
It was not my bra that squeaked one day, I mean every time I would move my arms it would start squeaking.
It was not my children who completely took advantage of daddy his first week he was home. It was not my children who realized dad had not checked in and destroyed the house when mom went out for the day. Or my children who ate chocolate cake for breakfast because they knew dad was not paying attention.
It was not a local radio station who encouraged us to buy school supplies and then were not there when I brought them back to give them to them.
It was not my husbands unit who forgot to meet him at his welcome home ceremony or even have someone meet him to turn in his weapon.
It was not my husbands unit who did not give him 10% of his mail while he was returned and then just shipped it back to the states. He will get it evidently.
My four year old did not tell me her dad was red to the brain or that he was ticked off, because she never hears the words "ticked off" in my house.
It was not my scale that said I lost THIRTY did you read that 30 pounds in 24 hours. How dare it mess with my brain that way.
It was not my husband who interrupted my bath, you know the only bath I have taken in 5 years.
It was not my husband who let my son dig in the neighbors trash so that he could get a game.
Hav
Mckmama- Not Me Mondaye a great day ladies.

Military Monday

Military Mondays Family and Spouse Carnival at Army Wives' Lives

And in case you did not know my husband has been home 11 days from his seventh deployment.

Our Worldwide classroom

The question this week is How Do you spend your time online? Honestly it is not for homeschool stuff. At least once a day I am printing out some worksheet. But we use BJU press hard drive program and so really they send you everything you would need.
So how do I spend my time on line. I love to blog and read other blogs. This may make me look bad but while I set at the table with the children doing school I play farmtown while the kids do seat work.

Letters to my Hero

To my readers,
Did that throw you for a loop? Can I tell you how weird it is to not say Dear Rob? My hero actually told me he misses my daily letters to him so maybe they will come back. Okay I have a few minutes so what about right now.
Dear Rob,
Hello babe, it is so nice to have you home. You have been home for 10 days now. I know things have been interesting.
First let me apologize for last weekend. What was I thinking leaving you for seven hours with four children? I guess I should have realized you had not had the time to really check in with the kids. Thank you for being so patient with me.
We have been so busy doing things this week that we have not had time to really set and talk. Honey, I cannot tell you how much it meant to me to set on the porch and talk to you. I really plan on trying to make this a priority.
Things feel normal right now, you and Michael are off fishing and the girls and I are relaxing around the house. I hope you found a great place to fish and you guys are having fun. Thanks for remembering the sun block by the way.
I am sorry I was so short with you about the chocolate cake. It really was silly. I really was mad that the kids would take advantage of you and do things they know better than to do.
Rob my heart is breaking that our weekend getaway fell through. I know you are as disappointed as I am. Can I tell you that I respect you for standing up for what is right for our children even though it means you lose out on a weekend away. I support your decision.
It feels so good to have you in bed next to me at night, or setting next to me at church or driving me around.
Thank you for driving us to Chapel Hill for Grace to see the GI doctor.
I love you babe, I just wanted to take a minute to say welcome home!!

Mil Spouse fill in Friday

1. What is ONE thing you’d like civilians to understand about being a military family? That my husband being deployed is not as easy as your husband going away on business for a week. My husband is in harms way, that I do not hear from him for days at a time, he is not staying in some fancy hotel with room service he is in WAR and it is stressful on both parts

2. What is your favorite mistake? When we lived in Germany I volunteered 40 hours a week, not worked volunteered. While I loved doing it and would not change it. I do regrett that I put my son on the back burned when he was so young.

3. What indulgence could you give up for a year? scrapbooking, Shoot I am almost there. I love it and love the finished products but without friends around to scrapbook with it is not the same

4. If you could be a winged animal, what would you be? a parakeet, because they have them in Iraq and maybe I could be snuck into Iraq without notice and still see my husband when he is deployed.

5. What is one question you’d like to see asked in a future MFF? How do you spend your deployment money, do you save, pay off bills or enjoy the extra money while it is there to buy the things you do not normally have

5 things you may want to know about my blog
1. I do not spend hours looking for grammatical errors
2. I homeschool four children and enjoy it all the time (well except when we are behind or they are not listening or life is just not perfect)
3. I love to cook and bake, so does my husband and he cooks dinner probably 75% of the time
4. My husband is a Warrant Officer in the Army and has been in 16 years.
5. I love to organize and straighten and scrapbook and sew and blog.
okay one more. If you leave me a comment I am coming back to check out your blog and say hi

Life is Good

I recieved this award from My Camo Colored Life First let me say her blog name is the coolest ever. So how do you pick someone to give a award to. I would like to say all my readers deserve a award. If you are willing to keep a blog going you deserve a award. But atlas that is not the rules. The rules (and you know I am a rule follower).
So this award is going to:
Julie the Army Wife (maybe she will teach me how to attach yellow ribbons to my pictures)
Army wife, Army mom, Army strong, Family strong (because she went with me to my favorite scrapbook store)
Sand Mountain Girl- (can I just tell you her husband has only been in a couple of years and he has already been to Korea without her and is now deployed again)
IT's Twinsanity- because the title of her last post was Welcome to suck town
Day to Day life of a Army Wife because her husband is away at Ranger school and I am sure they could use the encouragement

Pour your heart out

I have so much to pour my heart out about. First I am wondering why a month ago I had 500 visitors a day and now I am down to 300. I think I have become boring. So tell me what can I do to encourage you to come back and visit me.
I also have a heart to tell you that my husband is home and we are loving it. Not to say that we are without issues because we are. My children totally took advantage of dad because they knew he had not checked back in. At first this caused major arguments. Like hubby why would you let them eat chocolate cake for breakfast or why did you let them destroy the house while I was at a meeting. Then it dawned on me. This is not about my husband this is about my wonderful blessings who totally knew dad was tired and would not catch on that they were destroying the house. Oh and the chocolate cake. Who knows what that is about.

Wordless Wednesday-Life now that dad is home
