This week I am not entering any recipe carnivals. My friend had a baby over the weekend and I have spent lots of time with her girls. I do need your help. I need some freezer meals without a to of veggies. If you have one I would love to try it. I am also looking for bread recipes. Thanks in advance.
Pam

the mommy matters

I am starving, as in my stomach is growling. So this morning I thought I would talk about cooking. Can I ask you a question? Who taught you to cook? My mom likes to cook but either she did not do it often or I was not home enough to enjoy it. She did teach me one fun thing that I have taught my kids. When making spaghetti it is hard to know if the spaghetti is done. So when you think it is done take a piece and fling it on the wall. If it sticks then it is done, if it falls off continue cooking. Just make sure you take the time to take the spaghetti off the wall.
I learned a lot of my basic cooking skills in high school from a amazing teacher. I first learned to clean as you go. This was constantly drilled into our heads. Things like wiping off your cords when you are done with the mixer. Cracking your eggs into a separate cup in case you have shells was one of the smartest things she taught me. I would love to set in her class today and get a refresher class. Thank you Mrs. Chapman.

Happy Homemaking Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods:
Crazy beautiful. It was in the 80’s yesterday. My hero cleaned out our van which is scary.
Things that make me happy:
Getting to see my friends newborn baby today. I am counting the minutes.
Book I'm reading:
Effective parenting in a defensive world. WOW it is amazing.
What's on my TV today:
19 kids and counting tonight. Other than that not much.

On the menu for dinner:
roast beef with potatoes and carrots and homemade bread. I am leaving the house this morning with food in the crockpot and bread in the bread machine. We do not love the way bread machine bread looks but it will be able to cook while I am gone.

On my To Do List:
Homeschooling
grocery list
Dentist with 2 kids
Help a friend with her girls while she prepares to bring her baby boy home from the hospital.

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
I saw a recipe similar to rice crispy treats except you add chow mein noodles and pretzels and m&m’s.
In the craft basket:
Nothing right now, but I want to learn to make a rag quilt. Oh wait, I forgot we are making blankets to be put into foster care bags. They are fleece and you tie them instead of sew them.

Looking forward to this week:
the weather and holding a newborn, both are relaxing.

Tips and Tricks:
Be prepared with quick meals for your family so you are not tempted to go out. Baked potatoes with a can of chilli, hotdogs in the freezer.

My favorite blog post this week:
reading about Mckmamma’s trip has been amazing.

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers):
I honestly have not had much time to blog hop this week.

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

Lesson learned the past few days:
I feel like I learn more daily. I love the verse Eph. 6:4. I am trying to live it. I realized that I do it without meaning to. Last weekend we insisted that my teenager go to a birthday party with our daughters. I only wanted him to go because there was a great picture opportunity. What I realized later is he was right. There was no one his age there; he would have been bored and even out of place. I did apologize later and was glad at the last minute we did not make him go.

On my mind:
a four year old boy who we were told about this week. Please pray for this little boy.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:
Ephesians 6:4

Pray for me Monday

It is beautiful outside. The warm weather makes me feel relaxed.
This week I have a couple of prayer request. My friend’s daughter who had a baby almost 2 weeks ago has a fever and they think it is just a virus but she cannot hold the baby. Please pray for healing for her. Her husband is scheduled to leave in the next few weeks with the Army. It breaks my heart because I remember my husband leaving after I had a baby.
I have a friend who had a baby on Saturday and the baby is still in the NICU. He should get out today but please pray. Mom should be released today. If you have ever had to leave a hospital without your baby you understand that is one of the hardest things you can do.
My husband found out last week that his breathing problems are probably sleep apnea. He will have another test on Friday if tri care approves it. We are grateful it is not what we originally thought and nervous about how this will be handled in the Army.
Please take a moment to go to Home Grown Families and read other prayer requests. Prayer is a powerful thing. I try hard not to say I will pray for you if I do not mean it. I also try to pray instantly before I forget. I also believe that you can say I have a prayer request without stating what it is. God knows what is on your heart.

Friend Making Monday

1) What is your favorite movie? Fireproof because it is amazing. Titanic and Practical Magic but not because of the movie but because of the music.

2) If you could trade lives with an actor or actress for one day, who would you choose? And why? Michelle Dougger because I honestly love the thought of having that many kids. I know she is not a actress but there is not many I look up to.

3) Who is your favorite actor/actress? Julia Roberts, it has nothing to with her acting and all to do with her hair. I would love pretty woman hair.

Man I did not answer these questions well. I am so weird. This is who I could pick out of a line up. Patrick Swayze, Whoopie Goldburg, Julia Roberts, Reba McIntire, Roseanne, and Chuck Norris. I honestly could not even tell you which movies I have seen. It drives my husband batty because I am always asking if I have seen this movie or that.

Miscellany Monday

1. I may scream because I just wrote an amazing post and guess what I deleted it and I could cry.
2. Our tax return was supposed to be here Friday and it still is not here. We looked it up and it says it will not be here until March 8th.
3. Today is the last day of the month and we did not pay, is someone messing with me.
4. It was 80 degrees here yesterday. My husband deep cleaned my van. It was scary how messing it was. Can I say I think mini vans should not have carpet? Seriously if I could pull it out and put down the black floor like my husband has in his truck I would.
5. Last weekend my husband refused to hold the baby. He said they are contagious. As much as every month I want to be pregnant I would love it to be this month. That way he could say he was right.
6. I have a new recipe with chow mien noodles that I cannot wait to make today or tomorrow.
7. My husband found out last week his breathing problems are probably sleep apnea. I am nervous about what this means for life in the military.
8. My friend had a baby Saturday and I can’t wait to get him in my arms.

Military Monday

Good morning army wives. First I want to start with a question. Does anyone’s husband have sleep apnea and if so how does that work in the military? I saw the funniest thing this weekend. I have been babysitting for a friend while she was at the hospital having a baby. There house backs up to woods. They said it is actually a PT running trial. So yesterday I was letting the dog out and I saw little boys running around in the wood with fake guns. They were playing Army. I had to giggle. I guess because my son has always disliked all things Army. As I looked out the front windows I could see kids constantly outside riding their bikes and playing. It was a wonderful site. Not only were there kids everywhere but there was parents everywhere. This is stuff I did not see when we lived on post.
Last night we had small group. We are taking a parenting class while the kids are in AWANA. It dawned on me last night how awesome this class was because everyone in the class is in the military. And while there is only one command for children in the Bible it is nice to have other people who are going through the same thing. Most families either have both parents or one parent. But in military families you have both families but half the time only one parent is there. It was nice to hear how other people handle this.
I know I have rambled this week. This is what was on my heart.

God will make a way

Do you ever wonder why things happen the way they do? Do you ever wonder how you will handle a problem? I do. I often second guess what to do with my problems rather they are large or small. I forget that I have someone who knows how to handle them and knows how to handle them. I encourage you to take the time to take time to take your problems to God because he is there for you.

Epic Fails

I read about baking bananas with cinnamon and honey on them. So I bought a bunch of banana's and started cooking. Guess what? They were not so good. I think they would be good on ice cream. If you have had success doing this please let me know it turned out.
Next, I wanted to make red, white and blue cupcakes for the father/daughter dance and they came out pink and not a deep blue. One day I will figure this icing thing out.

flowers

My girls are selling flowers for American Heritage Girls. I would normally not ask you to help us with a fundraiser but this is flowers and from what I hear they are beautiful. The prices even look great. I am not great with flowers but am ordering strawberries. I am so excited. The girls get 50% of what they sell. If you order would you please let me know. They do not each get there own site so we have to turn in a list of names to make sure each girl gets proper credit.

Grace has a job

I have the pleasure of keeping a little girl a few hours every week. The little girl is just as adorable as can be. Grace would tell you that she is the one who keeps her not me. The funny thing is when her mom drops her off she does not even say hi to me. She instantly ask for Grace. For her birthday I made her a couple of pillow case dresses. When Grace realized she had them on she had to find her matching skirt.

Thursday 5

Outstanding
Refreshed
Adored
Cheerful
Cool
I think it is OUTSTANDING that my hero had a four day weekend. I love being able to spend time with him. I love even more that he was able to get our deep freezer cleaned out.

When I walk outside and feel the sunshine on my face I feel REFRESHED. It energizes me and makes me want to do something fun.
This week I got to hold my friends newborn baby, you know the kind of newborn that still has the wrinkly skin. I ADORED his little body and could have held him for days.
I am CHEERFUL that our income tax should be here in 24 hours and we will be getting father out of debt. We may even be buying new bedroom furniture for ourselves and giving our son our furniture. He is currently in a twin bed and his 6 foot 1 body is too big.
I think it is COOL that we are going to have a garden this year. I am really excited about it. I think it would be extra COOL if we could do some hay bale gardening too.

A neat video

I saw this on another blog. It is the blog of someone I knew from the church we attended before we moved. It is just amazing. I took the time to let my son watch it and explain what was going on.

I must love this child

I must love him to be willing to wake up at 5:30am to take him to a pancake breakfast fundraiser. I will say I was very excited to see him serve other people. I was a little upset he did not get to serve me until I realized he got to set with me and have breakfast. So it was worth it to have a few minutes alone with my son.

Wordless Wednesday-I outgrew my clothes

Falling asleep on the job

On Valentine's Day my amazing wonderful teenager babysitt for his amazing wonderful cool parents. He called us 5 minutes after bedtime and said the girls were not going to sleep. We reminded him this was not call worthy and said to give them time and they will go to sleep. When we came home a hour later we found all the lights off and everyone asleep. Faith had gone to her bed and everyone else was asleep in the livingroom. I do not think it is shows in the picture but he is actually sharing a blanket with Grace. I love that he is willing to keep the girls while he parents date again.

True Story Tuesday

Today I thought I would tell you a couple of quick stories. Stories of my encounters with the police, not that there are many. The first was about 18 years ago. I had moved out on my own and bought my first car. I was driving to work one day when I saw the red lights. I pulled off the side of the road and was a nervous wreck. I could not think what I had done wrong. As the policeman got out of the car I realized that my tags were expired and my new tags were in my back seat. So I turn around to reach for the tags when I heard “STOP”. Instantly I knew what a stupid move that was. He had no idea what I was reaching for. As he walked up to my door he looked in the back seat and said “mam, please have someone help you put those on today. I felt so stupid.
Several years later and four kids later I was leaving post and thought I was out of housing when I saw the lights again behind me. I honestly do not know who it was; he is not a city policeman and definitely not military police. Anyways, he pulled me over and walked up to the window and started fussing at me for speeding. I was going 30 in a 25. I explained that I was no longer in housing. He said that it technically was housing for another half a block. As he walks back to his car my daughter asked me if I was going to jail. My response was “no, he is just a rent a cop”. I instantly felt bad and apologized to my kids for not respecting authority. I was lucky the man did not hear me.
I really do respect police even if I do not agree with them.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip

I love making cookies. I love cookbooks even more. I think my favorite cookbooks are church cookbooks. The ones where everyone sends in their favorite recipe.
The other day I wanted oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I went to my MOPS cookbook that is probably 10 years old. I love this cookbook because it has recipes from my favorite people.
These cookies are amazing because they are soft and yummy with a little crunch.
Chocolate chip or Raisin Oatmeal cookies
Pre-heat oven to 350
1.5 cups all purpose flour 1c light brown sugar
1 t salt 1 t vanilla
1 t baking soda 2 eggs
1 c shortening 2 c old fashioned oatmeal
½ c sugar 12 oz choc. Chips or raisins
Combine flour, salt, and baking soda and set aside. Beat together shortening, sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs until light and fluffy. Slowly add in flour mixture and oats. Stir in chocolate chips or raisins. Drop by teaspoons onto baking sheet.
bake 8-10 minutes

Today was amazing. I visited a friends new baby and loved on him. Then a friend called and said she was in labor. So right now I am at her house with her babies. I cannot believe I may be smelling a new baby again tomorrow. My husband refused to hold the baby because he said they are contagious. Too funny since we do not block our bodies from having babies.

Daddy and me

I know, I know but I love these pictures, I love watching them snuggle together. I love looking at husband when he deals with his girls. They are all daddy's little girls.

Don't make me come up there

Now young man are you going to propose to this woman or not? It has been 16 years already.

Pray for me Monday

I have a very close prayer request today. When I was 12 years old I started babysitting for a 4 month old baby girl and a 4 year old boy. Within a year they had another baby girl. I love these babies. My 4 month old is now 23 years old. I have watched her struggle for the last several years. I cannot begin to explain to you that I love these babies as much as my own babies. I grew up caring for these babies. I was not a one night a week babysitter. I was more like a nanny. I honestly love them all but for some reason that 4 month old and I have a special bond. I think it was just because she was my first baby.
Well my baby is struggling. Drugs took over her brain several years ago. I wish I could kick Drugs butt. As I write this post my baby girl sets in a jail all alone and it is killing me. I will not get into details but I will say that for now I agree that this is the best place for her. I pray that she is ordered into treatment.
This whole thing scares me. Not just because she is my baby girl (well I guess technically she is her parents but I think I love her about the same). But it scares me because she has amazing parents. She has parents who did all they could for their children plus some. She had parents that were open with their children. I am not saying they were perfect because no one is. I will say I have searched and searched for something they have done wrong and I cannot find it. Logan is brilliant, I mean it. She is so smart and so beautiful. This is tearing my insides out. I want to run away with her.
I have not talked to my baby girl while she is in jail. She has called several times and I have not answered the phone. At first I thought it was a wrong number because I did not know anyone in jail. The last time it actually said her name. I did not accept charges because I knew I needed to talk to her parents so we were on the same sheet of music.
Along with this prayer request I ask you to pray for her families. Her mom has several medical issues and has had a hard time getting the proper treatment. Her sister has issues with seizures and is in college. Please pray for them all, please pray I will handle this situation correctly.
Pamela

What would you do if you won the lottery

What's the first thing you would do for yourself if you won 100 million dollars? Note: this question is specifically for you...what would you do for fun after the family and the bills and the obvious stuff was taken care of?

I would move my family to a new location way out in the country. We would get a bunch of animals and plant huge gardens. Then we would hire someone to take care of them when we did not want to. I would have a mega kitchen (not fancy just big and useable). I would still homeschool only we would travel the world doing it. I would probably hire a tutor to do most of the math and spelling.
I would take time to make quilts for fun and set up a sewing room for my girls and I. I would sign my son up for fencing and my girls for gymnastics. It breaks my heart that it is not in our budget to let them do all the fun things they want.
I would spend a ton of money on research for preemies. I would donate even more money to help with the wounded warrior program.
My children and I would spend many days volunteering. Because I could pay someone to do things like clean and cook when I did not want to.
I would build a big country home with a huge wraparound porch.

Miscellany Monday

1. My husband has had the last four days off and the weather has been amazing. I love it. It is in the 60’s-70’s. I think we need to get out of the house this afternoon.
2. Last week my friend from VA came for a visit with her 6 kids and I loved every minute of them. I miss her so much and wish we could talk more often.
3. We get our tax return this year and it is a crazy huge amount. Sadly we are going to behave and use it for all good stuff and not do much fun.
4. I am thinking of getting acrylic nails again. I have had them a million times before. I will keep them for about 6 months and then get tired of them. I am really thinking it is time again.
5. My boys are going to the mountains in March and I cannot wait. It will be my hero and my son and my father in law. They are going to have so much fun.

Military Monday

Good morning! I just turned on the Today show and it looks like it is snowing. That is crazy. We have had a amazing beautiful weekend. I am hoping today is the same way. It is Presidents Day which means my hero is home. We do not have been plans. We are still doing school and my hero is working on cleaning out the garage and deep freezer.
So for military Monday I thought I would tell you a funny story. A million years ago or maybe it was 10 years ago. I was very pregnant with our daughter and had a very complicated pregnancy. I actually left the hospital in pre term labor to go to my husband’s promotion ceremony. It was in a hanger, which means it echoes. We walked in and set down in the back. All the soldiers were already lined up and in formation. The First Sergeant and Commander came back and asked if I was okay. They asked if I was okay to be there. Everyone knew how difficult this pregnancy was. As they walked away my son who was 4 said “mommy are they boys”? I assured him they were and reminded him to be quiet. Then he said in the loudest voice possible “Do they have penises”? It echoed through the hanger. I about died. I looked at the soldiers and thought these poor guys cannot even laugh right now. So now ten years later I make sure to take a minute in the parking lot to remind my kids how to act at daddies work.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and that you at least get to hear from your hero today.

Date night with daddy

The girls went to the father/daughter dance last week with daddy. They were giddy about being with daddy and making daddy dress up in his dress blue's. A friend did there hair for me. One day I will know how to do there hair and make it look this cute.
I guess one good side to the military is you already have a suit to wear.

It is well with your soul

I cannot listen to this song without tears coming to my eyes. I love this song, I love it with instruments but I think my favorite way to sing it is acapella.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, it is well,
With my soul, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath she'd His own blood for my soul.

It is well, It is well,
With my soul, with my soul
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
It was nailed trough his cross, and I bear it no more,
Bless the Lord, bless the Lord, O my soul!

It is well, It is well
With my soul, with my soul
It is well, it is well, with my soul

The Sun is shinning

My hero was off on Friday. At some point Thursday night he woke up and opened our bedroom windows. About 6am I woke up and could smell spring. It was already 50 degrees. I had a hard time waking the kids to do school. I decided if I could get the kids done with school we had to get out of the house. I think the kids knew what I was up to because before lunch they were all done with school. My hero decided it was a great day to head to the lake to go fishing. We only stayed a hour because the fish were not bitting but it felt great to set with the sun on my face.
